Customisation Work

  • Led a team of 5 geographically separated SQL Server database developers (world-wide team).
  • Managed delivery of over 800 discrete custom software deliverable projects to over 100 international clients (Over $6M USD in custom software projects successfully delivered).
  • Provided remote project management for several smaller Chancery SMS software implementations.
  • Designed & developed a custom Sharepoint-based Business Workflow system for the projects-based business. This was integral to the business for managing projects, onsite resources, training and custom deliverable project work from prospect stage through development and billing.

  • Led the Reports & Customisations development team of 5, working both onsite and remote.
  • Refined and instituted best-practice processes for requirements definition and testing of over 270 custom software deliverables.

Project Manager Mentoring & Consulting (Sep 2005 – Dec 2006)

  • Supervised and mentored other large-district Software Implementation Project Managers, conducted project kick-offs and project audits for major projects, including:
  • Houston Independent School District, TX (279 schools / 203,000 students)
  • Memphis City Schools, TN (200 schools / 105,000 students)
  • Analysed RFP requirements and developed initial project plans for new proposals.
  • Provided consultation services for Pearson clients in the US, remotely and on-site.
  • Redeveloped and streamlined the Requirements Specification process and SOW model for services work.

 

Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, TN (Dec 2002 – Sep 2005)

(133 schools / 74,500 students) [$5M Project]

  • Managed the implementation of Chancery SMS software for the school district in a multi-stage project, where 6 months were spent determining the full scope and detailed requirements of the project, prior to establishing the final project budget and project plan.
  • Successfully delivered all core project deliverables and numerous value-adds, whilst staying within project schedule and under the project budget.
  • Developed and utilized a detailed resource tracking/budgeting tool, allowing for real-time calculations of the final project financials based on actuals to date, projected resource requirements per project plan, and on-the-fly adjustments to accommodate short-term needs. This gave the client a very high level of confidence in project delivery and forecasted financials at a detailed level over the term of the project.
  • Led a multi-disciplinary team of 30+ full-time school district staff and vendor contractors.
  • Managed development of over 70 custom reports and integrations with 3 major Operational Support Systems.
  • Mentored project staff and Team Leads (client and vendor side).

 

Howard County Public Schools, MD (Jul 2001 – Aug 2002)

(68 schools/43,000 students) [$500K Project]

  • Implemented Chancery Open District web-based software throughout the district.
  • Designed a tool to accelerate the integration and standardisation of 68 independent school databases into the new central database, saving weeks of manual effort compared to a typical installation, reducing integration error rates and raising customer confidence in the integration process.
  • Delivered project objectives under-budget and ahead of schedule, enabling additional project initiatives to promote end-user buy-in.
